My new oven, Rowenta OC7868

Today is the last day of Year 2011. I’ve been wanting to write this post since 25 Dec 2011. It’s the day that I’ve made the decision to buy a Rowenta Oven OC7868 which cost me SGD650. To me, this is quite a big investment for an oven. I’ve never thought that I would pay more than SGD200. But I hope I’ve made the right decision cos I believe baking a good bake not only depends on skills, it also depends on the ingredients used, the methods and of course the equipment used. A little thing goes wrong, the baked goods might end up in the trash which I usually don’t allow this to happen, that’s why weight keeps going up up up… This is my Christmas pressie for 2011, something I got to make myself happy! The oven was delivered to me today!

OMG!!! Never did I know that there will be someone to post here. I thought I could keep my humble site s secret as I record my baking journey. Haha. I got my oven at a neighbourhood electronic shop near Alexandra market. By the way, thanks for the surprise and how did you reach this page?

Hi Xuan :)

I bought the exact oven courtesy of my father in law last Sept.. I got it for around six hundred plus too @ a shop in JW.

I lurrrvvee this oven very much as compared to my previous oven. Although this Rowenta oven is smaller in capacity (38 litres) as compared to 42 l for my previous one, I just love the features. And the temp control is great. I baked some macarons with this new oven and it turned out great..much..much better than the old oven which was way too hot :)

Happy baking with the new oven ya !!

Hello Yat Maria,
Thank you for leaving your footprint here. :) As compared to you, I'm not really loving my oven now. I'm still trying to get heart to heart in touch with my new oven! It's just not abiding to my command yet. Not sure if being new is the reason. The oven temperature tends to goes up and down, it does not stay constant throughout. I would need to find some time to write to you, I would really love to know how to work with this oven.

Hello Eien Kisu,
You are right, this is a counter top oven with turbo fan. Temperature range is 5 degrees to 10 degrees celcius. Actually I've been using it for cakes & pies only, have not tried other functions, but from the brochure, it can do many things, including roasting a chicken without having to clean the oven!

Hi, I'm considering to replace our partly obsolete Moulinex Compact Chef Rotisserie. It's outside size is 51 x 31 x 34 cm (width-depth-height), the inside capacity is 28 l.

Now I wonder: what are the outside dimensions of the Rowenta OC7868? I searched for this info but could not find it.

It would be great if you can tell these figures.

Many thanks from Koen, Amsterdam

Hi, interested to buy the OC7868, cheapest at Mega Store at $680. Is this the best price and are you having any demo? Understand this model is best as it's with fan (already have a convection microwave oven) but it's slightly too big for my kitchen. Any other recommendation that is smaller in size but equally good? Many thks

Hi Iris

When a purchase a new oven, an endurance test must be perform to ensure the oven is behaving normal.

1] Maximum temperature must be on [empty inside] to expand all the metal inside including the heating element and season it. During this expansion the oven glass is going through a pressure and temperature test. The expanded metal will add pressure on the four corner of the galss to ensure her stability, Failing to do this for the first time and when you start to bake at very high temperature the pressure on the glass will be greater. You never find oven glass crack during baking they will be shattered because of the pressure. But when performance the endurance test to maximum termperature the glass will have less pressure from the expanded metal.

2] On at maximum temperature help to quickly burn out the lubrication [foul smell] smell so that your 1 baking will not at other smell added into your dish.

3] All oven will have a pre-heat requirement. Do this for the first time at maximum termperature is to ensure the heat inside achieved the baking temperature and to ensure your oven is normal. If the oven cannot achieved the maximum termperature then the oven is faulty. Without knowing the oven is faulty will cause you much inconvenience. eg. bring back later and the 1 for 1 dateline expired, you will had to bring the oven to the servicing agent [still getting back your oven after repair]. Calling here and there which will also make you very frustrated not to say the first few baking wasting your ingredients and the fail result not from you but actually from the faulty oven.

Like wise when one purchase a refrigerator or install new aircon, the technican will on the fridge or aircon at the lowerest temperature and let it run for at least half an hour. From this test, they will know whether the machine function properly and no abnormalities.

Good Day
